Swiss skiing in SchönriedWinter Sports in Schönried

Ski and snowboard 110 km of piste in Schönried between 1240-1985m

A

small resort on a plateau just outside Gstaad with the sunny Rellerli slopes accessible from the heart of the village and the main slopes of Gstaad Mountain Rides accessible from the edge of the village in the valley below via the Horneggli chairlift. The village is home to the legendary Swiss former ski racer, Mike von Grünigen, one of the most successful skier's ever and a two-time world champion. There has been much talk of what to do with the Rellerli pistes - the terms of operation the lift company signed require them to keep it open until at least 2019, but the season tends to be short and most people head off to the bigger slopes opposite. Interestingly there is a proposal to make it a freeride destination, saving on the cost of piste preparation.

Best of the Slopes

There is a slope named after Mike von Grünigen above the village which reputedly taught him everything he knew. He still teaches locally and you may even be lucky enough to see him on the run.

Where to Eat and Party

The Restaurant Azalée at the Hotel Alpenrose (+41 33 748 91 91) is highly recommended.

Getting There

By Public Transport

The best destination to access the downhill slopes by public transport in this ski area is Zweisimmen. Station adjacent to Rinderberg Gondola at Zweisimmen (left out of station). Note that the lift pass is good for all lifts in Gstaad Mountain Rides and on all local buses and the railway as far as Rossinière. Stations at Saanenmöser, Saanen, Rougement and Château-d'Oex are all a few minutes walk from valley stations. The bottom stations in Schönried are five minutes walk from the railway - Rellerli is up the hill and the main area is left out of the station across the railway track.
